The best Minecraft medieval servers in October 2026 split into two kinds: serious roleplay (Lord of the Craft, MassiveCraft's Roleplay mode) and kingdom survival with wars and sieges (Stoneworks, MassiveCraft Factions, Medieval Unlimited). Which kind you want decides everything else, from whether you need an application to how much of your week it eats.
Directory tags will hand you dozens of "medieval" servers; Planet Minecraft's medieval tag listed 79, many of them weeks old and tiny. A server made this list only if its own site (in one case, the owner's own listing) showed it running, and we quote no player counts, because they change by the hour. Everything below was checked on October 27, 2026. Confirm join addresses on each server's site before you connect, since they can change.
Serious medieval roleplay
This is the "play a character" end of the genre, where chat is half the game. If you searched for a minecraft medieval roleplay server, start here.
Lord of the Craft: the whitelisted, lore-heavy pick
Lord of the Craft (LOTC) has run since 2011 and calls itself "the world's #1 Medieval Fantasy Roleplaying Server on Minecraft", which is its claim, not ours. It is fantasy rather than history: you build nations, learn magic and can aim to become "a King, an Emperor, a Wizard, or a Warrior". Announcements dated October 19–24, 2026, including one on realm creation and war, show it is very much alive.
Application: yes. LOTC uses a whitelist, and you create a character to get in. We didn't read the application form, so we can't say how long approval takes. Java: 1.21.1 to 1.21.11 per its site. Address: mc.lotc.co.
Drawbacks: the whitelist is a real barrier if you want to play tonight, and its own mission page names a low retention rate as something it is working to counter. The same page stresses being accessible to newcomers, with room for light roleplay while you settle in.
MassiveCraft Roleplay: the no-application way in
MassiveCraft is a multi-mode network founded in 2011. Its Roleplay mode is set in the Regalian Empire, capital Regalia, and covers city roleplay (taverns, markets, noble courts, a criminal underworld), political roleplay (noble houses, court intrigue) and supernatural roleplay (mages, vampires). It needs no whitelist or character application to start; character applications are optional, for deeper lore. Combat roleplay is optional too, and fights can be settled by dice, emotes or agreement.
Address: massivecraft.com. Java only, no mods needed. Start with /char create, then /tp roleplay.
Drawbacks: with no whitelist gate it is looser than LOTC, and the supernatural side makes it medieval fantasy, not medieval history. The network also runs 1.8-style PvP, which matters if you prefer modern combat.
Looking for servers like MassiveCraft? Match by mode, not by network: for roleplay, Lord of the Craft is the nearest alternative; for kingdoms, see the next section. And if you want something like Lord of the Craft without the whitelist, MassiveCraft Roleplay is the one to try.
Kingdom and war survival
Here you claim land, join or found a realm, and fight over it. It is closer to a strategy game than a stage play. If you want minecraft kingdom servers in the sense of borders and sieges, this is the section.
MassiveCraft Factions: kingdoms, sieges, a player economy
MassiveCraft calls itself "The Original Factions Server", and its Factions mode "features Kingdoms, Sieges, and a thriving player economy". Power decides how much land a faction can claim, kingdoms unite several factions, and sieges are structured battles where attackers and defenders fight over land. The economy is player-run, with faction banks and no admin shops. Same massivecraft.com address, no whitelist, Java only.
Drawback: it is a factions server with a medieval vocabulary, not a roleplay-first one. For the genre at large, see our best Minecraft factions servers.
Stoneworks: nations and time-limited wars
Stoneworks calls itself a "geopolitical roleplay server" where you create nations, form alliances and wage wars. It began in August 2020, and its site describes the current world as Abexilas. Wars are "intense, time-limited raids"; PvP is core to them but "not mandatory". The site says no roleplay experience is needed and mentions no application, though that absence isn't proof there is none. Address: play.stoneworks.gg.
Drawbacks: its site counts two major wipes (the worlds Rathnir and Eldham came before Abexilas), so don't expect the world to last forever. Sources disagree on its Java version, so check the server's site. Treat it as medieval-style nation roleplay, not strict history.
Medieval Unlimited: the realism-leaning sandbox
Going by its owner's description, Medieval Unlimited is the most historical-feeling server here. Its own domain wouldn't load for us, so this entry rests on the owner's Planet Minecraft listing, last updated September 29, 2026. Its "Geopolitics" update, dated August 28, 2026, lets players claim large areas and gather vassals under one nation. The owner also lists aimable, loadable siege engines, food spoilage, stamina and thirst, an item-based economy ("no pay to win") and a custom continent, Vermance. Vanilla clients can now join, though the modpack is still recommended. Java: 1.21.10 per the listing. Address: medievalunlimited.online.
Drawbacks: the owner labels it beta, we couldn't confirm whether it uses a whitelist, and its status here is only as current as the owner's listing.
A note on ArkOfRulers
ArkOfRulers calls itself "a medieval server built around kingdoms, strategy and roleplay", with three kingdoms (Avelorn, Deloria and Althera), custom bosses and kingdom wars. But its homepage also says "We're building something legendary" and sends visitors to Discord for updates, which reads like a rebuild. We couldn't confirm it is open right now, so we aren't recommending it yet; check its Discord first.

How to choose
- Roleplay or survival? To be a character, pick LOTC or MassiveCraft Roleplay. For borders and battles, pick MassiveCraft Factions, Stoneworks or Medieval Unlimited.
- Applications. Whitelisted servers can ask for a character and a backstory; an old Minecraft Forum thread, useful only as an illustration, had applicants explain what "OOC" (out of character) means. Read the lore and rules before you apply.
- Etiquette. Serious roleplay is text-heavy and runs on in-character (IC) chat, so keep out-of-character talk separate. One Reddit recommender (August 2025) praised a whitelisted server for having "no trolls" and a rule against power-gaming, where someone plays an overpowered character.
- Time. Our advice: roleplay rewards regular evenings, wars reward being online when the fight starts, and Stoneworks' time-limited raids are easier to fit around a week than an open-ended story. With two wipes behind it, Stoneworks also isn't the place for your life's work.

FAQ
Are there any medieval Minecraft servers?
Yes. Lord of the Craft, MassiveCraft, Stoneworks and Medieval Unlimited all showed signs of activity when we checked in October 2026. Many tiny servers wear the medieval tag, so check that a server's own site shows recent activity before you commit time.
What is the IP for a medieval Minecraft server?
The addresses the servers publish are mc.lotc.co (Lord of the Craft), massivecraft.com, play.stoneworks.gg, medievalunlimited.online and play.arkofrulers.com (which may not be open; see above). Addresses and supported versions change, so confirm them on the server's site. We didn't look into the server called "Medieval Network", so we give no address for it.
Is there a medieval Minecraft SMP?
None we could confirm from a server's own site. MassiveCraft's SMP mode is mostly vanilla, not medieval-themed; Medieval Unlimited is the nearest thing to a medieval sandbox.
Where MCRPG fits
MCRPG (coming soon) isn't a medieval roleplay server, so it isn't on the list. Its overlap is the land-and-war side. As the settlements guide describes, players found a village by paying gold for a city pylon and grow it into a town, city or metropolis with gold and active, paying residents. Per the sieges guide, an attacker buys a war bond against a settlement, and the buyer becomes its owner if the siege succeeds. If that sounds like your kind of kingdom politics, the two guides explain the rest.
