Finding a Server

Best Minecraft Towny Servers (2026): What's Still Alive

CraftYourTown, LumaMC, LilacMC and CCNet: the Minecraft Towny servers that really run towns and nations in 2026, and which ones only wear the tag.

The Minecraft Towny servers that run towns and nations as their main game, and that showed up as active in 2026 listings, are CraftYourTown, LumaMC, LilacMC and CCNet. If you want wars, CCNet is the pick: it's the only one here listed with the SiegeWar add-on. If you just want a long-running town server, start with CraftYourTown, which says it has been going since 2017.

Directories also file CatCraft and BlossomCraft under "Towny", but they're general survival servers where Towny is a tag, not the point. Directories rank by votes and player counts and don't make that distinction. This page does: a server makes the main list only if Towny is its main mode, and every status line names its source, with a date wherever the source gives one.

What Is Towny in Minecraft?

Towny (full name Towny Advanced) is a land-management plugin for Paper, Spigot and Bukkit servers. Residents found and join towns, each run by a mayor, and towns can band together into a nation led by a king. Towns claim land chunk by chunk, residents pay daily upkeep and taxes into the town bank, and a town that can't cover its upkeep is disbanded.

War is not part of core Towny. It ships as separate add-ons: FlagWar, the oldest (dating to 2011), fought nation against nation, plot by plot; SiegeWar, with multi-day, non-destructive sieges whose consequences are monetary rather than block damage; and EventWar, which the project notes was once built in. So whether your town can be attacked depends entirely on which add-ons a server installed.

How to Tell a Real Towny Server from a Towny Tab

CraftYourTown: Towny Since 2017

CraftYourTown's own site calls it "a long-running Minecraft community with Towny and Skyblock gameplay", established in 2017. Towny is the main mode, alongside Skyblock, SlimeFun and custom systems. The Towny world is a custom map.

Weakness: version listings disagree (1.21 on one directory, 1.21.8 on another), so expect 1.21.x and confirm the build on its site. One directory also tags an Earth gamemode we couldn't pin down, so don't join expecting an Earth map. Bedrock: a minecraft.menu listing names crossplay as supported. Status: active per a minecraft-mp.com listing dated June 28, 2026.

LumaMC: A Seasonal TownySMP

LumaMC calls itself a "TownySMP focused on quality gameplay": Towny on a custom map with seasonal worlds, a jobs system, custom fishing and relics. It's US-hosted on Paper, and a minecraft-mp.com listing dated August 12, 2026 showed 100% uptime.

Weakness: neither listing we checked states its Minecraft version, and we found nothing on whether it runs a war add-on. Bedrock: a listing dated December 29, 2023 says it caters to Java and Bedrock players; unconfirmed for 2026. Status: active per minecraft-mp.com, August 12, 2026.

LilacMC: Towny Lite With a Player Economy

LilacMC bills itself as "a unique Minecraft Towny server", and Towny is its only mode: a custom map, a player-driven economy and custom plugins such as brewery and custom fishing. Its minecraft-mp.com listing advertises a "Summer Event 2026", and a minecraft.menu listing names "26.3 Support" as its latest update, the freshest signal on this page. Promotional posts on r/mcservers in 2021–22 called it Towny lite: "Towny is really only used for claim protections as there's no war or even PVP (without consent)." That's community-reported and years old; unconfirmed today.

Weakness: version listings range from 1.21.10 to the 26.x line, and Reddit player counts for it are unverified. Bedrock: not stated on the listing we checked. Status: active; latest listed update is 26.3 support (minecraft.menu).

CCNet: Towny With SiegeWar and Ships

CCNet's own wiki says its Towny gamemode "uses the aptly and identically-named Towny plugin", on a custom map. A minecraft-server-list.com listing shows SiegeWar installed, which makes this the server here with a real war system, and the network adds Movecraft-built ships and vehicles. A minecraft-mp.com listing dated April 29, 2026 lists 26.2.

Weakness: SiegeWar rests on a single listing, so check the wiki before planning a campaign. And pick the right mode: CCNet's Nations gamemode is a separate Earth-map server. Bedrock: not claimed on any source we checked. Status: active per minecraft-mp.com, April 29, 2026.

Towny Servers That Only List the Tag

CatCraft

A play-minecraft-servers.com listing tags CatCraft with over twenty gamemodes, from Towny, Factions and Prison to Pixelmon and Bedwars, while its own copy calls it simply a "Survival SMP". Listings show 26.1.1–26.2. Bedrock: yes, crossplay is tagged on several listings. Status: listed active, but that listing is dated October 1, 2024, the oldest source here. Pick it for variety, not towns.

BlossomCraft

BlossomCraft's own site pitches "a laid-back, no grief, economy SMP for Java and Bedrock, running 1.21+" with keep-inventory on, "blooming since 2020". Towny appears nowhere in it; only directories add the tag. Bedrock: yes, at play.BlossomCraft.org on port 19132. Status: active, its site updated days before we checked.

Earth-Map Towny Servers

Town-and-nation play also runs on scaled maps of the real world; CCNet's separate Nations mode is one. Earth servers are their own genre, and our guide to servers like EarthMC covers them server by server, so we don't repeat that here.

Small Minecraft Towny Servers

A small Towny server is where your town actually matters on the map. Before you build, check for a recent update you can date yourself, stated claim costs and war rules, and a Discord where people actually talk. Reddit self-promotion posts are one place small servers recruit: LilacMC advertised on r/mcservers, and r/MinecraftServer is the other subreddit worth searching. We're not naming one we couldn't confirm: a recruiting post proves a server existed the day it was written, nothing more.

Honestly?

Towny is a fragmented genre. Directories mix real Towny servers with general servers that tick the box (two of the six we checked), and only one of the six had a war add-on we could find listed. For towns with war, play CCNet. For a town server with a long track record, play CraftYourTown. If what you want is a town other players can actually take, MCRPG isn't a Towny server, but it's built around that: you found a settlement by paying gold for a city pylon, grow it from village to metropolis with gold and active, paying residents, and the pylon stays invulnerable until someone buys a war bond against it, priced by the city's tier. Win, and the city and its treasury change hands; lose, and half the bond goes to the defender and half is burned. It's a Minecraft: Java Edition server launching October 16, 2026, and the settlements guide explains how cities work.
